In my opinion, the biggest asset that we, Varrow, have is our culture. It’s something we work to preserve and foster. Without a doubt it’s due to the people that we hire and the freedom they are given. Often when working with customers they’ll say something like “I bet it’s fun working there!” and it’s true, it is. Yes, it’s often stressful as we’re growing like crazy while we’re trying to make sure our customers get the highest level of service possible…but we work hard and we play hard.
I wanted to show an example of that which started with me simply getting a new headshot done while I was up in New York the other week. I’ve needed a real headshot for a while. In the past when doing conferences or press releases or other things I’d use a more casual shot that I’ve had for a while so I figured it was time to get a better one done. Here is the source material:
Now, for the record I can not smile on command. I just can’t do it. Don’t know why..just can’t. I laugh all the time but that’s spontaneous. But in my defense most people in corporate head shots aren’t smiling…usually. Anyway… Inside of Varrow we use a tool called Yammer. It’s kinda-sorta-like a FaceBook for companies. You post status updates, pictures, replies, and you can like other people’s comments as well. So I changed my profile pic on there from a less serious picture to my new headshot…and the Varrow culture took it from there.
Since being promoted to CTO I have been catching a lot of grief internally anyway and as soon as someone noticed my profile pic had changed it was on. It started with AJ Kuftic having fun.
First was a bit of a retro theme. Won’t lie…still probably my favorite.
This one is currently my Twitter profile pic. It showcases my well known love of cigars and scotch.
AJ told us this was supposed to be a “Glamour Shots” type picture..but I think we found the limits of his talent and capabilities.
This is also a favorite. AJ said this one was for when I write something on here or on Twitter that others didn’t agree with…or the next time I get a takedown notice for something I was previously authorized to release…
And then to round it off we had new hire orientation this week with a bunch of new people. As the Yammer post said, “Jason Nash‘s leadership has inspired us all.” and then they did the following pictures.
We have a lot of fun at Varrow and I hope it shows in how we work with our customers and other partners. I’m already planning my revenge on a few people….
