Microsoft and Their New Linux Kernel Contributions

Microsoft surprised some people today with the announcement that they are contributing some drivers to the Linux kernel project.  There is a lot of mis-information and confusion running around..look no further than Slashdot!  Some things just never change….  Anyway, the purpose of Microsoft’s contribution is simple, better support for Hyper-V.  By adding these kernel extensions it makes Linux work better as a guest under Hyper-V.  Microsoft, rightfully so, wants to extend Hyper-V to run other guests (besides Windows) well and this is one big step in that direction.

So, the world hasn’t ended.  Microsoft hasn’t made a complete turnaround.  They simply followed the rules to get some needed drivers in the Linux kernel.
