Choosing and then getting a keynote speaker for a conference like Varrow Madness is NOT an easy task. There is a lot of balance that goes on. You don’t want too technical for a keynote. You don’t want it to be too marketing/product/brand focused as that isn’t why people are there. Do you get someone from in the industry? Or do you get someone that’s engaging with an interesting message out of industry? We’ve tried several different things over the last few years but I have to say, I think I’m most excited about this year’s keynote speaker.
We’re very proud to announce that this year’s conference will kick off with a keynote by Shawn Achor of Good Think Inc. Some of you may be familiar with Shawn while others may not. Jessica (Varrow Marketing Director) and I have seen Shawn speak before and were very impressed. Shawn studies what makes people happy and successful and tries to find ways where this can help others. Here is his bio:
Shawn Achor is the winner of over a dozen distinguished teaching awards at Harvard University, where he delivered lectures on positive psychology in the most popular class at Harvard.
He is the CEO of Good Think Inc., a Cambridge-based consulting firm which researches positive outliers — people who are well above average — to understand where human potential, success and happiness intersect. Based on his research and 12 years of experience at Harvard, he clearly and humorously describes to organizations how to increase happiness and meaning, raise success rates and profitability, and create positive transformations that ripple into more successful cultures. He is also the author of The Happiness Advantage.
If you have not read The Happiness Advantage I highly recommend you do so. I did on the plane back after seeing Shawn speak the first time at a Cisco partner conference. He just recently released another book named Before Happiness that I’m just starting to read. They are well worth your time.
We think you’ll enjoy this keynote very much and hope to see you at Varrow Madness on March 20th, 2014 at the Westin in Charlotte. If you’d like to register you can do that here. Do me a favor! Put my name (Jason Nash) as your referral. I’m still trying to beat out the sales team in our internal contest. Help me out!
